Once Upon A Time: Sivaji - the costliest movie ever made in India

Sivaji: The mother of all movies

Director Shankar’s hit film Kadhalan in 1994 he announced that his aim was to direct Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth. Kamal Haasan acted in Shankar’s Indian (Bharatheeyudu) but it took more than a decade to Shankar to fulfill his wish.

Initially, Super Star was considered as a title of the movie, but Rajni voted against it saying he did not want to boast or show off. Rajnikath’s original name was Sivaji Rao Gaekwad. The current Rajnikanth was named by K Balachander.

The leading lady of the movie finally zeroed on Shriya after considering names like, Aishwarya Rai, Ayesha Takia, Rani Mukherji, Jyothika, Trisha, Nayantara and Sneha. Nayantara will appear in an item song.

Telugu version rights bought for Rs 14 crore. The rights in the Nizam territory went for a whopping Rs 7.50 crore. Normally the Nizam area rights sold at Rs 7.00 crore max.
